Sergey Petrossov28-year-old CEO and founder of JetSmarter, Sergey Petrossov, had a great idea when he took a chance and started a new kind of company. JetSmarter allows people to book their flights from anywhere in the world at any time they may need to. JetSmarter does not own any jets of their own, but they do work with some of the biggest airlines so there are always flights available to their clients.
Petrossov created the JetSmarter app in 2012 so that people could book private flights to wherever they needed to go. The app's distributed aviation feature, which is socially powered by its community of flyers, means that you can either create the flight you need or join one that someone else has started.
There are around 18,000 jets across the globe, so this adds up to millions of underutilized paid hours The marketplace that Sergey Petrossov has created helps to decrease the underutilized hours and create product lines with the ability to book and entire jet or just one seat.
JetSmarter declined to comment on CNBC's inquiries, but said in a statement that "changes to our member services and benefits were within the rights of our membership agreement." For the record, JetSmarter's membership agreement states that the company can "change, suspend, or terminate" services or benefits at any time.
Sergey Petrossov started several smaller businesses before he ultimately came up with the idea for JetSmarter and the technology that would accompany it He knew from a young age that starting companies and working in technology was his calling and was what he ultimately wanted to do with his life.
While Petrossov says membership fees for JetSmarter aren't protected, and the company doesn't offer jet card type products, he said some customers do want to put money into an account to use for future travel and JetSmarter will arrange to escrow those funds.
After developing an app, his vision to create more private flights was practical. Intrigued and determined to find a way to make the private flight experience much more convenient, he started researching the industry and formulating solutions. I co-founded two IT projects prior to JetSmarter: an online chat system for website customer service, and a distance-learning platform for Russian speaking educational institutions.
JetSmarter offers a unique business model unlike any other private jet venture. JetSmarter has created an innovative company that provides shared services Sergey Petrossov for both customized, on-demand flights and its scheduled JetShuttle services which fly more than 50 routes to three different continents.
Before starting up his two businesses, Sergey completed a degree in finance at the University of Florida. His ultimate goal is to create a lifestyle brand where members can book all types of travel through JetSmarter and gain access to special experiences that the company can curate.
One day in 2009, he joined a friend on an experimental private flight in South Florida. The JetSmarter app is available for iOS and Android download in the iTunes store or Google Play store. If that happens, JetSmarter may become as much of a household name as Apple and General Electric.
JetSmarter, the world's largest mobile marketplace for private jets, has created a new class of air travel that is able to offer both custom charters and unused seats across thousands of flights. JetSmarter is a private company started by founder Sergey Petrossov.
